By Austin Dale June 06 But personal stories like his are rare among politicians. First of all, Johnson is young, having just turned 36, but he has been publicly active in LGBT activism for fully half his life. In , he was a high school senior in Massachusetts and captain of his football team when he came out. Johnson was profiled in The New York Times. And the month he got his high school diploma, he gave a speech at the Millennium March for Equality in Washington, D. Johnson spent the bulk of his twenties working with LGBT organizations – he was a program director with GLAAD – and cutting his teeth in the weeds of local politics, primarily as a volunteer Community Board member. We can go pack up and live behind our white picket fences Some such bills were considered among the most progressive LGBT initiatives in the country at the time, including two that made it easier for trans New Yorkers to correct the legal sex designations on their birth certificates.

NYC Tri Clubs I’ve met some folks from Terrier and Asphalt Green and they were all very friendly, but I think both clubs fall into the “hardcore” category in the sense that if you’re going to join, you’ll want to be very active. For that price you want to make it worthwhile. There is also Tri Life in addition to the ones mentioned here. All clubs allow you to come and join activities before committing so you can meet some people and see what it’s like. I think it’s important to think about what it is you want out of a club as well so you can make your decision accordingly:

Three Public Lectures by Jason Kendall: Imagine trying to cover a distant streetlight with your thumb. Your thumb appears bigger because it is nearer. Now, you still see the streetlight, but not all of it. So, by analogy, the Moon is close enough to just cover the Sun in the sky. Technically, that means the angular diameter of the Sun and Moon are equal. But, colloquially, it means that the Moon and Sun look like they are the same size in the sky.

Organizing open water swims has always been a labor of love, and it is time to pass the proverbial baton to the next generation. In , when Drury Gallagher and MISA decided to close up shop after a decade of service, our merry band of volunteers stepped up to fill the vacuum as we could not imagine the annual Manhattan Swim disappearing from the calendar. And now, swimmers in our region and around the world are fortunate, that New York Open Water has chosen to do the same and will continue to organize the swim around Manhattan under its own banner.
At the height of our group’s popularity, swimmers were afforded the opportunity to swim around the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island and of course, Manhattan. When we first began, swimming in New York’s waterways was considered a laughable activity often met with much consternation. Now as we depart, the NYC metropolitan area is served by numerous groups which organize river based events annually. If you wish to experience New York from a completely unique perspective, then please check the following organization that schedule events annually, including but not limited to: Why are we leaving the open water stage?
After twenty plus years of missing family events, seeing dear ones pass and having key members of the team having to focus on their personal health challenges, it was time to close the book. With so many open water swim options available and more being planned on the horizon, our community’s hunger for swims will easily be satisfied. A huge thanks to the fantastic volunteers who have assisted over the years; the events and the participant memories would not have happened without your assistance and amazing support.
It was a great run.

Fast forward to today, and HIV positive gay men are as open as ever about their status and their sexual preferences setting aside, if we can for the moment, the increased stigma and discrimination facing HIV positive people of all stripes who disclose their status these days. And those sexual choices may not include HIV negative people at all, thank you very much.
Serosorting , or limiting sexual partners to those who share your HIV status, has become the de facto prevention technique for many gay men with HIV. People who claim to be negative are often wrong, misinformed or simply lying. HIV positive men who claim to be positive are less likely to be wrong about that fact. On an important side note: Research indicates that poz-on-poz sex is much more likely to include barebacking unprotected sex , and that means the potential of pitting a sometimes compromised immune system against other sexually transmitted diseases.
If the idea of catching gonorrhea simply makes you feel nostalgic, what about the far more dangerous Hepatitis C? Barebacking is the suspected culprit. Everywhere on the gay hook-up radar, positive men are asking, telling, and serosorting. While one might appreciate Mr. I exchanged e-mails with Paul Morris in an attempt to interview a real-life couple he just re-signed to exclusive bareback video naughtiness.
